When to visit

Namibia is a year-round destination, but the best time to visit for wildlife viewing and exploring the country’s unique landscapes is during the dry season from May to October. During this period, animals gather around waterholes in Etosha National Park, making it the ideal time for game viewing. The cooler temperatures also make it more comfortable to explore the desert landscapes of Sossusvlei and Damaraland. From November to April, Namibia’s rainy season brings occasional showers and greener landscapes, particularly in the desert regions, creating beautiful photographic opportunities. While wildlife is more dispersed during this time, the rainy season is also the best time for birdwatching, especially in Etosha and along the Zambezi Region (formerly known as the Caprivi Strip). The dunes of the Namib Desert remain a striking sight year-round, with fewer tourists during this period. For optimal wildlife viewing, the dry season from May to October is the best time to visit Namibia, particularly for safaris in Etosha and Damaraland. However, the rainy season offers a different, quieter experience, with lush landscapes and excellent birdwatching opportunities.
